Stories of amnesia or memory loss tend to play out for months on TV soap operas. So we were pleasantly surprised when Dr. Bridget Forrester (Ashley Jones) shared with Steffy’s family that she was ready to learn the truth about her shooting. Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton), Steffy’s leaning-on ex, gently and supportively announced to his ex-wife that she has a son and another husband, Dr John “Finn” Finnegan ( Tanner Novlan).
“Finn…Finn…FINN…!” I remember!! I remember Finn! My husband… Hayes, my son,” Jacqueline MacInnes Wood’s Steffy shared emotionally as cues of symphonic music marked her reveal.
Of course, Steffy’s jubilation was short-lived. Her father, Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye), her mother, Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen), and her brother, Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), kindly referred to Finn in the past tense as if to help Steffy learn something no one else can ever be eased into. “Why do you talk like this? Steffy asked, hoping against all hope that there was a reason. “Finn is gone,” Taylor said softly. “He was shot that night [and] did not survive,” Ridge added.
Steffy has lost a lot in her life, but we can’t remember ever seeing the leading lady in so much pain. Tears flowed accompanied by uncontrollable tremors. Viewers wanted to reach through their screens and comfort Steffy. Fortunately, his parents and brother were there to do the job.
Steffy recalled that Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) is Finn’s mother but not that she was the one who shot her and murdered Finn. Unaware that she has the world’s worst stepmother, Steffy has found the grace to share her sympathy with Sheila for the loss of her son.
Later, Liam updated Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) and Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) on Steffy remembering Finn. “At first she was just confused… but then the memories started to come back and you could see the expression on her face change and it was just… it was awful. She realizing that the husband she was only starting to remembering… is gone. Indeed, it’s truly awful to know that Steffy is in so much pain. However, watching Jacqueline MacInnes Wood deliver another emotional tour de force is what watching soap operas is all about!
Honorable Mention: Kimberlin Brown, a former Soap Hub Performer of the Week for B&B for her role as Sheila Carter, continues to shine in this storyline. We see the vengeful former nurse display colors she hasn’t always had in the past, like genuine remorse.
