Lyrical opera performer Rose Guccione joins LATE NITE CATECHISM cast in Chicago
The hit comedy, LATE NITE CATECHISM, welcomes Chicago actress and opera singer Rose Guccione as Sister.
“I played nuns and prostitutes, so I know the women of the Bible a little bit,” Guccione joked. “And once I played a dominatrix!”
Call it Loretta Young meets Carol Burnett, with a bit of Whoopi Goldberg, LATE NITE CATEHCISM is both a Sunday school class and a stand-up comedy routine. Written by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, it is an interactive comedy, one of the oldest shows in Chicago and US theater history.
Guccione performed for 20 years with the Lyric Opera in Chicago and in several productions with Chicago’s Folks Operetta. She has sung extensively in the United States, Europe and South Africa. She has also appeared in several comedy sketches and improvisation shows with the Salsation Theater Company.
Guccione is a faculty member at the Dominican University of River Forest, Ill., Where she teaches music and artistic entrepreneurship classes. She also has her own singing telegram company called OperaGram.com.
Now celebrating its 28th year, LATE NITE CATECHISM opened in 1993 and has been operating in Chicago ever since, only forced to take a break during the pandemic.
In addition to Guccione, the role of “Sister” will continue to feature Second City alumna Jenna Steege, as well as longtime actresses Liz Cloud and Mary Zentmyer.
Since opening in May 1993 at the Live Bait Theater in Chicago, LATE NITE CATECHISM has seen three Popes, three Cardinals, four Presidents, three Chicago Mayors, at least a dozen Chicago-area theaters, 20 local actresses and made laughter over 3.5 million spectators in over 410 cities, playing in six countries on four continents. Worldwide, the show has grossed more than $ 100 million in box office revenue.
Additionally, LATE NITE CATECHISM has helped raise over $ 3 million for retirement funds for various orders of nuns. The New York Times calls it “hilarious, well written and inspired.” The Chicago Reader calls it “a first-rate comedy”. Jeffrey Lyons of TV’s Sneak Previews called LATE NITE CATECHISM “something to savor and enjoy … one of the most intimate and rewarding shows in town.”
Additionally, Nuns4Fun Entertainment will reopen its holiday classic, CHRISTMAS BINGO, for six weeks, starting November 26, for the holiday season, also at the Greenhouse Theater Center. CHRISTMAS BINGO will star Vicki Quade, Nancy Greco and Kathleen Puls Andrade as Mrs. Mary Margaret O’Brien, the former nun and bingo fundraiser.
Tickets for all shows are $ 35. Tickets are available online at: serretheatercenter.thundertix.com. Or by calling the box office at 773-404-7336.
