HUNGRY PERFORMING ARTIST Caught DRINKING DRIVING LATE NIGHT JAUNT TO MCDONALD’S – Island Echo
A 37-year-old entertainer has been banned from the roads for 12 months after he was caught drunk on his way to a late-night snack at McDonald’s in Ryde.
Kristopher Madden, of Grange Court in Bristol, was arrested by police on Brading Downs Road on October 29 after officers witnessed his erratic driving; crossing the center white line, accelerating and hitting the pavement. He failed a roadside breathalyzer test and was taken to the evidence machine in Newport, where he blew 40 – the start of the prosecution.
Defending Lee Peckham said his client was working on the Isle of Wight as a performing artist when he traveled to Newport for a drink. While at the pub he was bought a round of drinks by people who recognized him. Although he had no intention of drinking and driving that night, Madden got hungry and decided to head for the 24-hour drive-thru at McDonald’s in Ryde.
Mr Peckham told magistrates that his client was traveling the country for work and that a driving ban would affect his income.
Magistrates gave Kristopher Madden a 12-month driving ban, fined him £307 and ordered him to pay £85 in costs with an additional £34.
