Discover Ireland at the Musical Instrument Museum

Get into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day on March 12 and 13 as the Musical Instrument Museum showcases the music and culture of the Emerald Isle with a weekend of shows and special activities. Soak up Irish music and culture with live entertainment, an Irish-inspired lunch menu, and other family-friendly activities. All activities are included with paid admission to the museum; free for members.

Hear harpist Jocelyn Obermeyer and singer Michael McCall perform as a duo in this Irish-themed pop-up concert.

12:30 p.m.

Join local fiddler and fiddler Taylor Morris for a performance highlighting the joy, depth and musicality of the Irish fiddle.

Witness the thrill of Irish dancing! Watch a performance by students from Chandler’s Bracken School of Irish Dance.

Curator’s Presentation: Tradition and Change—The Irish Instruments of MIM

Traditional Irish music has contributed to Ireland’s national identity and continues to inspire musicians and instrument makers around the world. Listen to Richard Walter, PhD, Curator for USA/Canada and Europe, discuss iconic Irish musical instruments and performance traditions with a particular focus on highlights from MIM’s Irish exhibition.

Discover the high-pitched kicks and rhythmic footwork of Irish jigging in a workshop presented by the Bracken School of Irish Dance.

Performance: Spirit in a Kilt (Sunday only)

3:15 p.m.

Celebrate traditional and modern Celtic music with a rousing ensemble of Irish rock from Kilted Spirit.
